January 31, 2016 - Ruby to garnet, very first hints of age in edge. Nose is indistinct fruit and barrel sweet woods. Taste is closed, almost impossible to detect anything other than secondary characteristics. Didn't improve much over a couple hours, ultimately falling into a rich alcohol finish. Acidity just missing, not sure why. Lower rating than a few years ago, doesn't hold up.

Casual Blind tasting at dinner party against dierberg Santa Maria 2008. Interesting differences. Red man was a bit closed in even after 2 hours decant, indicating many more years of bottle age, color bright. Nose was quieter and fruit more subdued, a sleaker almost weaker wine than dierberg. Good acid, legs and finish. Sant Maria was Bolder and mor fruit, less complex. Redman showed blueberry vs blackberry and softer palette. It paired well with cherry grilled king salmon and Pinot noir blackberry sauce. Tasting group was split on favorite...
