November 18, 2018 - Honey, mango and pineapple notes on the nose. A bit above medium bodied with all tropical notes upfront coupled with a lot of depth. Lots of honey notes intermixed, especially through the middle which has superb density and depth. Mid-body also brings in of white orchard fruit notes (apple, white peach) that provide balance to the most overly sweet topical/honey upfront combination. Combine this with some tart citrus notes towards the back and very good acidity and what you end up with a dessert wine certainly, but one showing a lot of complexity and one not defined solely by the richer, sweeter notes. With the acidity at this level, the wine can continue to age for many years.

February 28, 2015 - I have to admit I may be partial to this wine for sentimental reasons - it was actually the first German riesling I ever consumed (back in 2012) and wow, what a way to begin. So out of curiosity I opened a second bottle three years later to see if my romanticized image was tainted by nostalgia. If anything I appreciate all the more what an amazing start I had. Fat, round, and ripe. Massive botrytis with simmering acidity. Just an immense dessert wine that continued to improve over the week I drank it. I'm not sure why S-O doesn't release more Wehlener offerings because this was intense in all the most wonderful ways.

June 23, 2013 - Tropical fruit, botrytis, rich and fat. Sweet, as in not a table wine; this one is definitely for dessert. Tasty but not long on acidity. Drink now as I'm not sure how this one will age.
