Community Tasting Notes 5

December 1, 2021 - With not too much coaxing, this Clos Vougeot came to life with characteristic flavors of red berry, red currant, forest floor, mushroom, and an orange rind note that did everything to lift up the otherwise quasi-earthy profile. Medium-bodied overall, with an attractive poise that glides through the finish. A great food wine suitable for drinking now and over the next 5+ years.

Served next to a 2017 Henri Boillot Clos Vougeot, which had more notable flash and effusiveness than its eight-year-older second cousin.

May 22, 2020 - Strawberry jam and rich grand cru fruit. This could have benefited from a 1 hour decant. Still very primary while picking up traces of mushroom and wet earth. The fruit concentration consistent with 2009 vintage. For my palate, I’d prefer a few more years of age.

July 23, 2018 - Strawberries with pepper, marsipin and violets on the nose. Juicy palate with a good balance between sweetness, acidity and bitterness. Long finish. The '09 are always great to drink. Not a sign of closing. This wine will come together but is great now.

December 31, 2013 - Opened and poured, this wine gave an excellent showing for it forward aromatics and balance, youthful fruit on the palate. The bouquet shows dark cherries, spice and subtle earth notes. The color is a slightly tarnished dark ruby. The medium bodied palate shows youthful fruit and a lengthy finish with medium weight tannins and sufficient acidity. This does drink will now for its youthful fruit and should benefit from additional bottle age.
