August 26, 2023 - Dulling ruby core with watery edges. Definitely starting to hit a mature stride. PnP with 30 minutes of air. Perfumed aromas with a smooth, but elegant mouthfeel. Fruits have turned red: spicy red currant, juicy cherry, savory plum, drying red berry, with cigar tobacco, old shoe leather, and powdered cocoa in the mix. Shows some slightly green Pryzentinne notes at mid palate. Completely integrated structure, but it continues to hold everything together. Medium plus finish. Enjoyed with a grilled ribeye, mushrooms and Brussels sprouts. Drink now through 2026+.

July 4, 2021 - Better bottle and experience than my prior tries. Not much depth but nice structure and plenty of ripe cherry to carry it. A slight pyrazine note still clips it a bit. Likely past peak but several more years in the tank.

May 6, 2020 - This is a revision to my review of 11/29/19. Today's bottle is significantly better than that earlier one. This one tastes more like what I think of as Groth, with significant yet subdued dark fruit and acid in balance, along with still-strong tannins and evident oak. Not nearly at the end of its window, contrasting my previous note. It may hold up until 2024 or even longer, although that may depend on the individual bottle. The earlier bottle was too acidic with weak fruit; perhaps some air had leaked past the cork long ago and caused oxidation? Anyway, I'm glad to see that this is, after all, a decent vintage for Groth reserve.

December 31, 2019 - For my taste, this was in the perfect spot! A bit of tannin still remains but the wine is elegant and a bit feminine. Paired superbly with a Prime ribeye roast. Looking to purchase more.
