November 27, 2014 - Tasted during a Wine Advocat event - A matter of taste. Dark blackish crimson. Expressive nose of cassis, smoke, tar, scorched earth. Very precise palate with creamy tannis and excellent length. This is miles better than all the wannabe "thick & sweet" Shiraz that are popping up on every corner of Barossa. Bummer the market seems to know, hence the price.

November 22, 2014 - The nose was very good. Oak, tar, leather, smoky and heavy black fruits. Palate was very big with large voluptuous tannins. Huge mouthfeel with slightly chalky tannins. Lots of flavours hitting from all sides. Huge dark and black fruits, vanilla, oak, cassis..... Beautiful wine thats becoming approachable to drink now.

August 9, 2014 - Had this out at dinner alongside a 1996 Chateau Margaux. Two very different wines. This was smooth, deep with oak, vanilla and leather flavors. Opened up quite a bit after an hour plus in the decanter.

June 21, 2014 - Penfolds Tasting (Bin 75): The inkiest wine thus far, also surprised by the amount of sediment in this fairly young bottle; ok now we're talking, sweet cassis, intense, glycerin, vanilla, maduro cigar, blackberry jam, bourbon, smoke; deep, structured, concrete dust, prominent tannin, green pepper, eucalyptus; a monster of a wine that commands your attention, decent now but should cruise past your kids' graduations...from med school.

May 21, 2014 - hawksmoor penfolds tasting. was the last wine of the night so maybe my taste buds already a bit blitzed . what struck me was how approachable this was. not the tight, tannic, baby i thought it would be.the fruit was very expressive and with steak the tannins hardly noticed. v smooth.
lovely shiraz indeed but in all honesty i recently enjoyed a 2004 st henri just as much so really unless you collect grange why else would you pay up for it.
