February 4, 2016 - WOW. A little young, but just stunning juicy round syrah in all its glory. Chez J&B

December 27, 2015 - Penfold's Grange, 2008: Deep purple with a hot pink rim. Super ripe concentration of plums, black berries, vanilla and a hint of cardamom. Lush plums and black fruits are the order of the day, with a rich mouthfeel and balanced acidity. Look, it's a great wine, and I'm sure it'll be even better in decades to come, but for the price, I would rather get Henschke Hill of Grace.

And seriously, why are we even drinking a Grange at this stage?

November 8, 2015 - Sweet cherries, red berries on the nose. Herbal, spicy, smoky - wow, so complex and wonderful on the nose. Very intense and ever-changing but not blunt at all. Sweet start on the palate, very balanced, lots of acidity, powerful, really spicy, juicy and pure. The tannins are ripe, integrated and powdery, providing great structure but are melting away like butter. Enormous length on a brilliant mineral note. Pretty sensational. Somehow approachable but of course a baby. Great future. 97-98+

November 5, 2015 - Tasted alongside the 2010. Was in a decanter for at least 1.5 hours before tasting, and I sat with this for about 30 minutes. Fantastic complexity on the nose, showing lots of olive brine, some char, and loads of dusty red fruits. Beautiful vibrant acidity and rather expansive on the palate ending in a beautiful finely grained tannic finish. While this showed better initially than the 2010, I ended up thinking that seemed more complex. Of course, this is still just a baby, but it already shows well with some air.

October 23, 2015 - 2015 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/19/2015-10/27/2015 (New York City, NY): So close to perfection, this Shiraz (which contains a 2% dollop of Cabernet) is an intriguing mixture of black and red fruit, accented by chocolate-covered cherries, loamy earth, pickling spice, sage and mint. Full-bodied, freshly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic and with big sweet tannins, it has great mid-palate density and seems to linger forever on the back end. This should be ranked with the best wines ever made. Drink now-2040.
