Community Tasting Notes 3

November 23, 2022 - Two Kracher TBAs from the 2008 vintage tasted double blind side by side. Both, the Chardonnay and the Zweigelt (both rated 86pts) showed very complex and highly precise in typical Kracher fashion. Still, for me there was a distinctive lack of acidity to keep it fresh enough. So while intellectually appealing, this was more like sirup than a sweet wine. Hedonistic but overwhelming every sense. Not a wine I would like to have a glass of at the end of a wine soaked dinner. No surprise, most guessed didn‘t finish their glasses. The 86 pts for the high complexity and precision.

Decanting: Not decanted, no extensive decanting needed.

November 12, 2022 - During a blind tasting dinner. We had two Kracher TBA side by side on the finish. I am not much of a sweet wine drinker, clearly preferring the Spaetlese/Moelleux level of sweetness vs. Licoreux. I never had these Kracher wines again, they reminded me of a vin doux naturel from South of France. Both were of good quality, the TAB 7 Zweigelt, made out of a red grape even sweeter, darker color, lots of brown sugar, rhum aromas, very complex. The TBA 7 Chardonnay also had lots of sweetness, tobacco leaves, and fig.

November 11, 2022 - Tasted blind. This had a touch of Williams, ripe raspberry fruit and sweet notes. The palate was rich, very sweet, flavorsome and showed an unexpectedly soft texture. This had so much power it even reminded me of Port-style Pinot.
