Community Tasting Notes 16

April 18, 2016 - Decanted for an hour before enjoying it with home-made pizza. On opening, it was a little thin, but the hour allowed things to integrate well. This would never be more than a pleasant, one-dimensional Tuesday night wine. But it's very serviceable and a good accompaniment to food.

October 20, 2015 - One-dimensional medium red with a hint of future bricking. Quite hot on the nose with a background of coffee and brooding red fruits. Notes of strawberries and earth with over the hill raspberries. Fine as an everyday drinker; part of Dad's (RIP!) poorly stored collection.

February 27, 2015 - Not sure what's going on here. Either this wine, over the course of 2 years, has improved dramatically, or else my smelling and tasting sensory apparatus is now (or was then) in the toilet. This bottle was a fine accompaniment to a hearty Tuscan white bean soup and salad. Rule for cheap Chianti, at least from 2010... let it rest for a few years! The wine seems to have picked up some weight from the last tries. Good balance, medium weight, dark fruits well integrated into acidity and tannins. Alcohol seems less pronounced. A tad short on the finish. This was a "bonus" bottle on someone's introductory offer -- at this point it would be a great QPR if it were priced in the mid-teens.

November 27, 2014 - Much better than previous times. Possibly a better bottle; more likely it just had more time to come together. Also, I decanted then poured it back into the bottle 15 minutes before we enjoyed it with a simple pizza meal. On this occasion, clearly showed a sense of place -- certainly characteristic of mid-peninsula Italy! Again, nothing special, but clearly drinking better than the last two bottles I wrote about.
