September 30, 2018 - Black cherry and plum with roasted game. Opened an hour before serving, this started out very fresh and remained vibrant and incredibly balanced and elegant throughout, but more earth and tertiary notes started to emerge after open 2+ hours. At a great place right now, best to enjoy by 2022.

September 18, 2016 - Very good cork. Pale/medium garnet/mahogany core, wide pale mahogany rim. Initially a little mute on the nose, then opening to reveal savoury yet pure red fruit, some darker fruit notes, smoke and mineral with a slight meaty edge. Medium bodied, showing pure red fruit on the initial attack, very fine tannins - indeed starting to show some silkiness, again some darker fruit notes then smoky mineral emerging with fresh acidity carrying a very good length harmonious finish. Finely wrought, excellent, drinking well but clearly no hurry.

March 27, 2016 - 1990 Baroli and others: Served blind. Double decant then four hours air. Deep red colour with brown tints. Almost russet. A superb 1er, showing very well on the night. "Grand Cru quality", said Nick. A classic Gevrey nose with savoury, underbrush, musky, tobacco and dark fruited nuances. On palate, just beginning to turn secondary, adding detail and interest. Flavours reflecting the bouquet, umami and very dark. Earthy, rusty, with a little cigar leaf. A base of good, ripe fruit. Good concentration and power. Starting to fall over the next day. I'd drink another bottle in the next few years.

December 19, 2014 - Hits this "score" mainly via the aromatics, which are a spectacular mix of earth and sweetness -- brown sugar/molasses. Red-fruited on the palate for the most part. Good but not great there; never totally integrated or in complete balance. Good now, probably same later, with no "great" coming.....
