July 7, 2023 - Bought last year from a wine shop in Vienna.
Cork in excellent condition, no signs of past seepage.
Brown-coloured with medium intensity in terms of appearance.
Marmalade and honeycomb on the nose. Minimal signs of tertiary development on the nose despite the advanced age.
Quite rich and thick and unctuous on the palate, with medium+ sweetness but just about enough acidity to balance it all out.
I am skeptical this wine will improve much in the near term. Probably best in the next 5 years, or wait another 30 years to see what happens. But I doubt there will be much tertiary development in the intervening period.
I would have scored it higher if it had more complexity but it did feel a bit one note with the marmalade.
---- Update one month later August 2023
Unfinished 1/3 bottle kept in fridge and opened a month later
Fruit notes on the nose have faded but in their place is a pleasant tarry cigar box note, with a funky mushroomy note
The palate remains the same but as the nose has faded I am enjoying the taste more. Very much a maraschino cherry vibe on the palate.
So this is still extremely pleasant even a month later. -

March 5, 2022 - What an odd, but fun, wine. Dark brown with aromas and flavors of banana pudding / Banoffee pie, with a bit of stewed raising mixed in.

September 21, 2021 - This feels like a passito styled wine; there's no botrytis, modest acidity, and a huge saturating density that kind of settles onto your tongue and lacks energy once it's there. Concentration for the sake of concentration. Reading the previous notes here I'm either drinking an off bottle or the last 9 years haven't been too kind to this syrup of Chardonnay.

December 28, 2012 - I really don't know what to make of this. It's a Chardonnay with only 7%, tastes predominately of apricot, has a mouthfeel of marmalade, and the color of brandy. It's strongly reminiscent of ice wine for me. This may be great for what it is, but it's really not my style.

September 6, 2012 - From half bottle, of course. Amber in colour. Very reticent nose with a dominant aroma of marmalade. On the palate, you immediately notice the thick texture and marmalade flavours (again). This bottle does not come off as particularly sweet, and on my initial taste, the acids really stood out, bring a lot of balance to the wine. Somewhat spicy finish. Textbook Kracher.
