July 8, 2019 - Cork closure - Color is just starting to show a little aging tone on the rim with a light brick shade to a dark ruby colored core. Poured after around two hour of opened bottle slow ox without decanting...on nose is quite mesmerizing, so much stuff to sniff at every swirl! Perfume is dominated by wood spices and dried herbs at the moment with dried juniper berries, bay leaves, wet bark, thyme, fresh mushroom, anise and gentle alpine herbs. Fruit is typically bridging the merlotesque plum, that here are fading into dry satsuma, to the finesse and delicacy of pinot noir with its dark cherries and some not-so-pinotesque blackberry. All the goodness behind this is really eye opening with incredible details ... it goes from the usual Blaufrankisch wood smoke to some mineral wet stone, graphite, licorice and some light hanging meat. Oak is barely perceptible with just a shade of cigar box to it.
On palate sits fully developed with a very pleasant mild acidity that gives it some extra time to age a little more, tannins are superfine, black tea like, soft and of very elegant integration. Overall it’s an outstanding wine that reflect perfectly the character of a great Blaufrankisch ... if I had to pinpoint my judgment it only lacks a little of textural length.

November 12, 2017 - There seems to be a confusion regarding Anita and Hans Nittnaus on the one side and Christine and Hans Nittnaus on the other side (see 2009 Labels), both from Gols. As e. g. Comondor on this page is a wine from Anita and Hans, my note refers to the Blaufränkisch Leithaberg Alte Reben from Anita and Hans Nittnaus. Expressive nose with juniper berries, brown spices, minerals and dark fruits. Spicy palate with slightly bitter, tannic finish. Fleshy and concentrated due to old vines, but still a finessed style of Blaufränkisch. I think this will improve and be even more impressive in a couple of years.

September 16, 2015 - Screw cap. A rich and velvety style of Blaufränkisch on the nose, black fruit and spicy oak, but the palate does not lack the varietal's transparency, mineral energy, sour cherries and freshness, even if it is rounded out nicely by the wood (18 months in 500 litre barrels), good weight (13.5% ABV), elegantly fleshy, harmonious and neither over-extracted nor over-oaked, finely grained tannins; complete finish, spicy slate, very good length. At hotel Tennerhof, Kitzbühel, Tyrol, Austria.

March 7, 2014 - Dense dark fruit, minerality, tight tannic structure, comes across as over-oaked at this juncture, with a lot of dark bitter chocolate. High quality, question mark for style and drinkability.

(Hans und Anita Nittnaus Blaufränkisch Leithaberg DAC) Ruby red in color, with a purplish rim. Cherries and dark berries lead the mineral-laced nose; the flavor is powerful, with ripe-blackberry elements and well-integrated tannins. The spicy finish is typical of top-quality Leithaberg Blaufränkisch. Burgenland
