February 27, 2013 - Mark Ryan Winery makes consistently good wines but in my honest opinion are over-priced. Thus my reason for recently dropping out of their Dead Horse Club wine club membership. This 2010 Black Love vintage is quite good. Classic Pinot Noir nose and taste. Alcohol % is only 13.9%, thus no excessive heat. A very well made wine but over-priced.

February 1, 2013 - Decanted 1.5 hours. Nose of cherries, pie crust and some spice. Similar palate. Low to moderate acidity and moderate tannins. Did not show any heat. Nice if a bit boring towards the end.

January 4, 2013 - Powerful nose, cherry pie and crust, toffee. The palate is also quite forward and powerful but also complex, big, sweet cherry flavors with some other red berry fruit, milk chocolate, english toffee, coffee and vanilla. Medium-heavy weight on the palate with good acidity and tannin. There is a bit of hollowness in the transition to the finish. Somewhere that's where I lose flavor if the wine has a lot of alcohol, but this doesn't seem to be very high in ABV. Tasted this side-by-side with a Lachini 'S' Lachini vinyards wine and the two wines were amazingly different in style. Still a fun wine, but honestly not something I would purchase again.

August 7, 2012 - Quite dark for a pinot. Nose of sweet fruit, a little funk and some spice. Similar palate with a little vanilla poking through. Moderate acidity and tannins -- showed a little of the alcohol too. Score reflects potential as it needs to shed some of its baby fat.
