December 3, 2021 - Full-bodied, bright fruit, nice structure of acid and tannin. Probably could have kept this a few more years

July 20, 2019 - Mid mahogany red with bricking edges.
A somewhat subdued nose at first with warm red bricks, red cherry and rosewater.
There is a bit more excitement on the palate with tar, cinnamon, leather desk, white pepper, liquorice and tobacco leaves.
The tannins are drying, and the wine overall feels a little steely and upright, almost like there isn't enough fruit to work with the structural components. It is an elegant style, like a ballerina, but perhaps a little too bony for me. Didn't really improve in glass.

June 8, 2019 - Mid garnet to a mahogany rim, deeper than expected.
Lifted perfume of black olive, picked violets (more Syrah than Nebbiolo); then dried rose petals, light tar and pencil shavings.
Medium-bodied, the entry opens with more tar, asphalt, liquorice, freshly-rolled cigar and dried cranberries. Dried olives join this as does Bing cherry. There is a delicacy and poise to the wine, clean and intense with an ongoing mids-palate lift. The tannins are puckering, almost astringent but narrow and with the wealth of fruit perfectly balanced. A gentle acidity flows underneath and the wine shows relatively youthful. The finish is long and there is more tarry grip on the back palate - it worked nicely with our pizza supper! It drank well as it opened in the decanter, and the fresh acidity popped up to keep it going. Yet I wasn't convinced it has the structure for further ageing - 11 years is pretty good? Enjoy now, as seemed delicate and fragile? but fun - have another bottle to try later.

August 27, 2017 - Some unintegrated wood stood out to me. Not sure the depth of fruit is there to deal with that. Nice wine with good freshening acidity, but not in any way remarkable. Would not mind if this was a $20 bottle, but at $40+ this is a bad QPR (assuming this bottle is representative). Did not think this had any flaw, just unimpressive. Also agree with the notes below describing the "mutedness" of the bouquet.
