Community Tasting Notes 4

April 24, 2015 - Ripe California Wines (Private Location): *** Please see this note only in the context of the whole tasting ***
    Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah
    Wine: Double decanted
Hazy, medium golden-amber color. At first it seems, that the wine was clearly oxidized at definitively past peak at the nose, but the oxidiative notes vanished over time.
Dry, with medium+ acidity, which was a bit sharp. Quite high alcohol (14,1%) and full bodied. The taste was much better than the nose with medium+ intensity and a medium+ finish. Quite spicy, dry fruits (Apricot), elegant oak.
This was not an optimal bottle and clearly past peak. I don’t give it an “official” score, this bottle was around 85 Points.

April 24, 2015 - California (Private Location): Nose: Very matured nose, unfortunately, distinctly over its peak. Very oxidative nose with a bit of bread & nut aromas.
Palate: Sharp acidity on the mid-palate, caramel componten (oak), more a medium-to full body wine. A bit of saltiness on the finish.

November 22, 2014 - California treasures in an unexpected place (Fulda): From magnum. I could not believe this, I was totally unprepared. This magnum was so spectacular I had to go back for more many times. Loads of caramel, nuts, mango, papaya, some herbs. The viscosity seemed to be high and very chewy. Great great bottle of Chardonnay.

August 3, 2006 - Flock Tasting of Cali Chards - 1999 or older (Dennis' place): Light gold in color. Creamy aromas of toasted oak, white fruit and floral notes. Palate has melons and vanilla. Oak is still obvious, but not obtrusive. Almost monolithic --- but a good balance of fruit and acid.
