March 8, 2024 - Don’t be afraid - this one’s still singing and dancing like you wouldn’t imagine. Still so delicate - round and well balanced tannins - beautiful finish and fruit! Yes!! Fruit!!

November 2, 2023 - Mushroom, jungle fruit, high acidity, if a step behind the 67 tasted earlier this year in structure and details. 91-92

February 1, 2020 - Q1 Wine Club - Aged Barbaresco (The Apt): Wine #4: This was a wine that I considered giving a penny to as well. It's definitely well aged and I'd argue at least with this bottle we were on the downswing and so time to drink up. First notes are all leather and more savory. Some darker fruits eventually. Fun to get to try since this is old school Gaja before all of the oak and changing the way things were done as I understand it and so I appreciate a chance to see how it used to be (there was a point where they had a lot of oak treatment and I've tended to struggle with those wines for some reason) (3 pennies)

Second attempt to taste 50yo Barbaresco. This one was alive. Well, there was present acidity and somewhat similar to tannic structure. No grape variety character. Way over the hill.

I blame poor cellaring. Cork was elevated.
However '69 was a poor vintage too.

November 11, 2015 - Quite a bit of balsamic like volatility to begin with. As it took on air it smelt of porcini mushroom and damp earth. The fruit was red and tart and gained in sweetness in the glass. It had so many ethereal savoury notes and a palate that was carried by the wine's acidity as tannins have melded into it. A treat to drink.
