May 28, 2022 - Further to earlier tasting I ended up putting together a goat shank stew to match to this wine.
Very gentle decant and then consumed over a couple of hours. On the nose vanilla, sweet spice, leather, ripe blackcurrant, a little alcohol prickle, mushroom, dried herbs and hits of roast capsicum. In the mouth there is juicy acidity but this isn't quite as sour when paired with the food, drying persistent, slightly grainy tannins, red and blackcurrants fruits, leather, long. the air seems to help this but it was the right decision to open and consume.

March 24, 2022 - Coravin fun - Random Australians with ring-ins (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. A little baked earth fruit, leather, slight porcini, toast, tomato leaf and tomato, muted sweet spice and charcuterie. Medium plus intensity acidity is quite sharp, alcohol warmth, a little red and blackcurrant fruit, touch of mid palate scoop and chalky tannins, a bit past it's best - not flawed per se but faded. Might be saved with tomato & lamb shanks served with truffled polenta.

October 10, 2009 - This probably was at its peak around 1995. Not sure what happened here - the '84 Girard Reserve is excellent and has stood the test of time. The '85 is theoretically the better vintage but this just didn't age nearly as well. Third bottle I've had with same results - dark in color, but the fruit is gone and only the skeleton remains. Excellent storage, cork in great shape, just simply DOA.

January 27, 2000 - 1985 Vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon-10 Tasting Notes (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Nice, rich nose, simple nose, taste of big, intense fruit, good acid, and a long finish. My #4 of 10.

    January 17, 1990 - Tasting of 6 Cabernet Sauvignons.
Woody and closed nose, very fruity, tannic and lost of acid in the mouth, average finish, sees slightly out of balance. Retail $21.77. My #5 and Group #6 of 6.
