Community Tasting Notes 2

February 27, 2018 - Light color for a cab. Also a bit cloudy. Nose is ripe. Palate is elegant and complex. Medium plus tannin still with very good length. Most guessed this was French.

May 4, 2012 - Half the bottle went into a decanter and a minute after I poured the glass I will use for this tasting note. The wine is opening up slowly on the nose, but clearly that it is. There's a deep, earthy fruit quality that brings to mind dark cherries, black olives, Mediterranean herbs (rosemary in particular); a bit of body odor beneath or the bite of Eucalyptus. Indeed the bouquet comes across rather young-ish. And if the amount of fine, water sucking tannins that showed in this first sip are indication of much, I'd say this wine a whole is yet young as well. It a battle on the palate between the lithe, smooth demure of a well balanced mature cabernet and it's gritty DNA, chalked full of granite infused earth and dust and dry field shrubs and all those fine fine mouth puckering, tooth-shrinking tannins. I'd say this wine has decades left to travel -- it really seems to me that it must. As I didn't mention it, this is very complex with abundant fodder to capture the palate and entrance the mind. The ABV reads 13.5%, and while that's a miniscule marking for most CA cab, it actually makes this one of the more high-octane wines I've drunk from this amazing producer. My second glass from the decanter was more weighty and dense, which brought on that last comment. Sweeter too, with meandering flavors of fruit here, umami there, beef blood here, flower aromas there. It's extremely gratifying to me to know that I live not much over an hour away from such a great site for the expression of terroir. This makes me want to get busy making wine, or more, rather, growing great grapes.
