Community Tasting Notes 2

October 31, 2017 - Auction purchase. Cork dry but in one piece. Really pretty nose and some nice complexity on the palate. Red fruit/cherry, black olive, caramel. Exceptionally smooth tannin. Acidity about done.

May 3, 2014 - Unbelievably great. This displays a complexity, freshness and delicate lightness that reminds me of a 53 Haut Brion in the early nineties. Notes of cola, tea leaf, dried black cherry, lanolin, coconut flakes, and constantly shifting fruit with a finish that's the longest I've experienced this year - measured in minutes. Wet wool. Plum compote. Rain barrel. New sawn cedar and wet graphite. And, there's still a greenness here! The highest praise I can give this, in a weird way, is that it is a "beverage" and I could go on and on with the complexity with which this stimulates the mind. Brightness is the key here, this shows no hint of over-blown-ness. Combining depth and richness with elegance and stylish grace in a way that only mature top Bordeaux/Burgundy 1st Growth/Grand Crus in great vintages can.... (words fail). Sorry, I'm rarely given to waxing enthusiastically poetic, this wine deserves that. Best wine of the year, and has me reconsidering Cab-based wines. Huge respect to whoever made this wine in 1979. Still developing at the two hour mark, with no sign of decline, and long, long, long. Wow..... (Poster collapses in mind-freeze with said profundity in hand.) :)))))) Maybe the best wine in ten years, this is still gaining complexity as the last drop is finished. A monument to Bacchus, and wow.... (again.) My first 100 point wine. Of all the gems I've been lucky enough to drink, only 62 La Tache and 53 Lafite compare.
