February 1, 2024 - Gentle aeration for 3 1/2 hours prior to serving. Primary appearing deep ruby with little lightening. Strong menthol scents at first joined by ripe fruit later. Medium weight with lovely layering. Red and blue fruit, a veneer of soil, and clove spice. Not a bit too ripe, some tannins remained. This lost its vigor after being open for several more hours, in contrast to a magnum 6 years ago which kept going strong for the entire evening. Fading but still mightily impressive.

September 22, 2023 - Slightly muted aromatics. Sweet, minty palate.

February 15, 2022 - Trio of 1983, 1990, & 1991: The 1983 was lovely, graceful, and charming, all in an understated way. Essentially everything you want with this vintage. The 1990 was robust, and a bit of a bruiser. Great fruit, drank very well, yet still an adolescent at age 32. The 1991 was class in a glass, and ultimately my favorite. While the phrase balanced is out of vogue with many tasters, this was balanced (there, I said it). Edging into its tertiary phase, the 1991 is simply a complete and fantastic wine. The trio was a great example of 1+1+1 equaling much more than 3. A delightful tasting.

August 1, 2021 - This was a double blind horizontal tasting by Mike, across four bottlings. This wine had a deep red center with puce/orange rims. It was actually slightly lighter at the rim than other bottlings. The medium+ intensity nose was comprised of cherry cola, plum, brown spice, and mineral notes.

In the mouth, this wine was balanced with great weight, acidity, and length. It also sported attractively rounded tannin. It showed lovely fruit as well as mineral intensity.

While this wine will last at this level for 10 years or so, I don't see any reason to wait.

February 9, 2021 - Appealing and deep spice nose. Ripe and muddled palate. Good but not great.
