March 17, 2019 - Light to medium brick red.
Distinct bouquet of barnyard pong, earth (mix of wet soil and dried clay pot), stewed fruit alongside savoury notes.
Full-bodied wine that shows very developed notes, grippy tannins but little fruit. The acid has a little sappy sourness (stems?), and there is some singed charcoal, smoked meats, and a slight black cherry coulis that gives a sweetness to the finish. It has breadth rather than much depth but has seen better days. -

September 28, 2018 - Northern Rhône WIMPS, (La Trompette, London): Lighter and less dense. Redder fruited. Lovely mid-weight. Densely silky. Lovely freshness. Bright red fruit. Very harmonious and really quite long. ****

June 24, 2014 - Medium-dark red color. Medium intensity nose, leading with raspberry-cherry fruit and balanced with olives and brine, the garrigue, smoked pork. On arrival, low-medium tannin and medium acidity; a high energy structure. Flavors fruity and savory, heaps of garrigue, some tar, finishing with a gamy meaty note. Bottle #6 of twelve.

September 30, 2013 - Rupert's Bosconia (The Medlar, London): Gorgeous nose. Wonderful purity of fruit. Blackberry, blackcurrant and a touch of raspberry. Good acidity, very fresh. More red-fruited on the palate. Really quite long. Opening up to show the whole smoky bacon fat thing. Really gorgeous nose. Long and lovely. ****1/2

2/4/2003 (link)(Ogier Cote Rotie) Oak, violets, game, grilled bacon, green olive, minerals, black cherry. Very high-toned. Precise and lush with juicy cherry and blackberry fruit. Very concentrated. Open and accessible. Not especially complex which is the one thing that this wine has going against it. Still the wealth of fruit and overall high level of winemaking make it a pleasure to drink.
