Community Tasting Notes 4

September 2, 2021 - From 75cl, acceptable but softening cork. Opened but not decanted 1 hour, did not change thereafter over +90 minutes. Obviously Grünhaus slate, spice, minerality, but alarmingly soft and lifeless, like other MG 2011s recently tasted (Herrenberg AR trocken; Abtsberg Spätlese—I haven't dared try the so-called "superior" bottlings yet, but fear the worst). Either this is a dumb phase, and these (supposedly very long-lived) wines are merely waiting to blossom again, or I was a fool to have waited beyond +6 years. 87-88P(?)

April 19, 2020 - From 75cl, perfect cork. A bright, slender, lively 9 year old Abtsberg AR, quite primary, even closed today. I think this has time in hand and may improve further. 89(+)P

November 29, 2017 - Nice, classy nose with dough. Taste: some fruit (apple and citrus), dominated by nice mature notes. A bit heavy in the finish, but nevertheless a very good wine. (Not the perfect match with palourdes and tomato sauce). (88-)89.

April 1, 2013 - A private lunch (Restaurant Brogsitter *, Walporzheim, Germany): Lifted, floral and fresh nose with subtle touches of citrus and slate; on the palate a seamless, elegant wine, feminine, dry but almost silky and with ripe but crisp acidity; good length. Lovely sense of place.
