August 3, 2022 - A perfect bottle. No oxidation zero tiredness.
Big and bold. Red berries, sherry like aromas, hazelnut creme. Very complex. Good acidity. A classic Gatinois. Drink now. -

December 31, 2020 - Refusing to look at 2020 even in the rear view mirror but awaiting the possibilities of the coming year, we opened this bronze beauty to enjoy with the bounty of the takeout meal from Blacksalt (DC banned in-restaurant dining due to the pandemic), we opened this wine for the main dish of halibut under a mustard beurre blanc. Fourteen years old, and yet the bubbles - the tiniest bubbles - enthusiastically soared to the top of the glass almost roiling the surface in the joy of releasing their yeasty profile with loads of brioche, baked apple pie crust, almond and chalk. The initial taste was a bit oxidized, but as the wine found itself, it set up shop in tidy fashion. The mousse was lively and full from first to last pour. Alc. 12%. With halibut from Blacksalt, but also paired well with the lobster pot au feu. 12.31.20. Recommended.

June 7, 2012 - John Commerford's 67th birthday dinner (Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand): Intense, but currently very tight. Biscuity and mineral with a citrus edge to the acid. Very concentrated and long. This will be a fascinating wine to follow as I imagine the wine will develop and change radically over time. It strikes me as the kind of wine that will offer enjoyment at every stage of its development.
