Community Tasting Notes 1

July 12, 2021 - Ullage above base of neck. On the nose, soft and faded fruit notes (plum, saffron) compete with hints of oxidation and decay (newspaper, soy sauce, sardine). On the palate, dark fruit flavours of blackberry and plum are overtaken by bright, acidic cranberry; oxidation and decay are also present, but less so than on the nose. Entry is soft and mouth-filling, and smoothly transitions to a firm, focused finish. There's no tannin, but strong acidity provides structure; it drinks well on its own or with food. It's certainly showing it's age, and would only appeal to lovers of very old wine, but it's still alive.
