December 27, 2023 - Wow! Such a beautiful, complex nose that's quintessential Cornas. Meaty notes, savory, violets and other flowers, dark cherries, olives, and bacon. Nice acidity on the palate and still surprisingly young and fresh with red cherries, tart fruit, more olives, a hint of smoke, and a bit of underwood. Very long finish. This may be the pinnacle of Syrah to me. A benchmark Northern Rhone.

October 21, 2023 - Syrah Young and Old (Winchester): Served blind. Just to look at it you can see it’s older - bricking on the rim. The nose talks of gentle decay - still sone fruit there, some vigour, but a hint of silage perhaps and earthy dark notes - it just pulls you in, the vaguest hint of warning that the palate may disappoint - that this may have fallen apart. Has it? Not a bit of it - still vibrant, some fruit, a kind of late stage freshness, along with the classic “old wine” character. A fellow diner described this as a wonderful old person and this was spot on - charming and experienced and you overlook the occasional misstep because the stories are so wonderful, and you know if you don’t pay full attention right now you may never get the chance to again. Im my notebook I wrote “like a power chord on a Les Paul through a fender twin reverb turned up too loud” - in the sober light of morning I stand by every word. A privilege to taste this.

October 20, 2023 - A privilege to drink this glittering jewel of a wine again. Orange rim - clearly old. So unbelievably sexy - simply ridiculous. Instantly glorious. A touch of melancholy. Simply exquisite. Romantic and emotional. It's like an old person - doddery and rickety, but so many moments of wisdom and laughter. Really beautiful. A wine of love, about love, for love, from love.

May 6, 2023 - A remarkably tasty and elegant wine 32 years young. Flavors are holding up very well. Still vibrant fruit with a moody complex finish a special treat sorry to know there is not another in reserve.

April 28, 2022 - Actually quite light with dominant dark fruit, cherry and acidity in front. Hue of elegance. 92-93

(Verset Cornas) What a brilliant bottle of wine. Drinking at it's apogee this had soaring aromas of saddle leather, mint, barnyard, blackberries and garrigue. The nose was very nuanced and kept changing. One of those wines where you're nose was in the glass all night. Palate was pure and balanced with a wealth of deep, concentrated fruit. More on the blue and black side than red. The fruit sweetened up after an hour open. Brilliant benchmark Cornas. Not sure if I had better save an Allemand here and there.
