February 23, 2013 - A wine from the house's own, + 70 yo vineyards. Aged in 228 liter barrels, of which 20% are new, 30% are once used and 50% are twice used.

Pale yellow color with greenish highlights. Quite restrained, light and delicate nose with harmonious aromas of pineapple, red apple and sweeter hints of mirabelle plums with a very reticent undertone of nutty oak. Very elegant and restrained on the palate with rather light and delicate fruit flavors of pineapple, fresh citrus fruits and hints of green apples. Besides the fruit flavors, there are very pronounced notes of stony minerality, some dried herbs and a light touch of toasted, nutty oak spice. OVerall the wine is quite intense and moderately fresh, despite its somewhat modest acidity. Very gentle, silky and moderately full-bodied mouthfeel. The medium-length finish is quite reticent and rather light in flavors of pronounced minerality, apple-driven fruit, a little buttery oak and a hint of wood spice.

Initially very underwhelming for a Puligny-Montrachet, but opens up after some air. Definitely more about elegance than about oak- or fruit-driven character. Very delicate and perhaps not something you'd expect for a wine labeled as Vieilles Vignes. Best on its own or with very delicate foods, as this wine was almost overwhelmed by our onion soup. Probably not a Burgundy you'd want to age for a long time. Somewhat worth its price at 33,70€.
