September 8, 2023 - Needs air to talk but when it does, a fantastic wine.

Still lovely youthful colour, the wine has plenty of complexity on the nose. Full of exotic spice, leather and violet aromas, the body is supple that is being carried by sublime freshness and tension. Leather, tobacco, blueberry and dark red plums dominate the body. Fine finish with hints of a still a long future ahead of it.

    Drink now to 10+ years.

August 28, 2023 - So rich, yet balanced, just big and young. Very good. Could go much longer.

September 24, 2020 - Masterful Shiraz/Syrah. Spicy and complex. Strong dark black hard candy and melting eucalyptus. Arguably the best value for premium Syrah in the world.

December 31, 2018 - Good, but... I kind of feel like we’ve either waited too long, or not long enough. Mid-palate seems to have gone kind of watery. Long finish, but mostly dominated by tannins. Have another bottle, so perhaps we’ll wait a few years and see if it pulls together.

May 7, 2014 - If you love D'Arenberg's Dead Arm as much as I do, you won't be disappointed by this 2010 JRO Afflatus Single Vineyard bottle of Shiraz. By comparison, this bottle is less fruit forward than the Dead Arm, instead displaying higher notes of spice, dark chocolate and black olives. This unconfused Shiraz also contains hints of eucalyptus, black pepper and mulberries, along with heavy earthy, mineral elements. This well-structured wine was not only tannic, it was Ti-Tannic and could benefit from a few more years in the cellar.
