August 28, 2012 - This was my first experience with aged white Rioja and my overriding impression was that I would like to have tried this wine five years ago. The wine has a terrific golden colour; some rusty coppery tones woven into custard tart oakiness and some straight baked apples on the nose. A herbaceous attack is sadly followed by a flavour vacuum on the midpalate - a sure sign that his wine's best days are behind it - and all that remains is the merest trace of acidity and a fair bit of oak on the finish. An interesting drink as part of a cheap mixed case, but I wouldn't expect much else from this wine beyond basic novelty value.
