March 30, 2016 - 13.1% abv. Grapes from Nysa Vineyard in Dundee Hills. Screwcap or Stelvin closure. Tart red fruits and acidic. I was not very impressed as a standalone drink the first evening (I dined at a German restaurant earlier in the evening.) I tried it the second evening with dinner and enjoyed it a bit more. The last glass was even better on the sixth day after I had been out-of-town for a few days. The 91-pt. rating is based on that final glass. Cellar 2-3 more years or open and aerate fully. Maybe open and set it aside and come back to it later in the week. I have two more bottles of this for a later date.

February 18, 2016 - This is much, much better now than my first two bottles. Really took quite a leap forward. Weird bottle stank for about 30 seconds (like a garbage can), maybe some reduction from the screwcap? Then it gives way to fruit and stony earth, and it's almost Corton-like. It has that much in common with my note from a few years ago but it feels much weightier and more substantial, bigger in scale yet with the fruit sweetness dialed back into more classic territory and all that intense stoniness making up the difference. According to the Schildknecht review this was "a four-barrel selection from relatively old vines in Nysa Vineyard."

March 1, 2014 - Needs at least 24 hrs of open, opened up tasted and just needs some air, next day started to open up, there is a pure sweet fruit on the nose and hidden on the palate behind a good cranberry tartness

A: Very Tight nose, but still get a lot out of it, lots of spice like ground fresh black pepper, the fruit is there but tightly wound up right now, a rich tart red fruit
P: High Acid, Med.Med+Body, Med+ Intensity, Long FInish
Lots of Rhubarb/Chery/Cranberry, with a lovely texture and lingering mid to 3/4 spice on the palate, finishing rich /savory
