December 20, 2023 - Last time I enjoyed this was 3-1/2 years ago. Currently in the early mature phase. At thirteen years this needs decanting and hearty food; enjoyed with a grilled NY strip. Still plenty of cooked and stewed black fruits in the mix, with more than enough structure to support added longevity. Excellent if you like mature wines. Slightly beyond peak, but there’s plenty left in the tank to drink well for another 2-3 years before this starts to fall off the cliff.

August 5, 2023 - Could use a little more freshness as the acidity is low. A bit plumy and ripe with very little Cabernet Franc herbal (classic) character. Tannins have resolved but this also at this age tastes boring and tired. Recommend drinking at cellar temps to accent freshness as much as possible and drinking sooner than later. I appreciate the quality and lack of any rough edges but I do miss the classic qualities that I used to enjoy with older vintages of Andrew Will reds.

May 21, 2022 - Tasted after 90 minutes of air. Medium purple with some slight bricking near the edge. Violets on the nose. Round sweet red berry fruit. Firm acid provides balance. Some spice. Very nice.

October 30, 2021 - Very dark red color with a 4mm transition to clear edge. PNP drank a couple glasses over 3 hours. 52% Merlot/48% Cab Franc. This has a pretty mix of red and blue fruits on the nose, milk chocolate and subtle earth, but it is the dried herbs that stand out on the nose. The palate builds over time with the fruit emerging in waves moving through the entire spectrum starting more black and red and eventually it is the blueberry that come to the forefront along with the sappy red raspberry. There's a soft satiny texture with well rounded tannins and a nice soil note. This is drinking really well now with just a little air and should continue to do so for a number of years.

October 17, 2021 - The 2010 Ciel du Cheval is a perfect example of balanced restraint while still delivering gobs of WA fruit is totally possible. This blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc shows dusty red currants and blueberry skins with nuances of rosemary, chalk dust and hints of cigar ash. It's an undeniably elegant and feminine expression, driven by a core of saline-infused acidity with tart red berries, sour citrus and rosy inner florals. This leaves the mouth watering through the lightly structured finale, where a pretty flourish of inner sweetness enlivens notes of violet and hard red candies--what a darling! It's also worth noting that the 2010 clocks in at a mere 13.2% abv. Drink now with a decant or cellar for many more years.
