    January 24, 2021 - Quite a lot of deposit for a relatively in mature wine. Great smell of plumb and dark berries. Not a typical Bordeaux, more like an italian IGT

    January 26, 2018 - More Napa than Bordeaux. Full-bodied, rich, ripe dark fruits, quite silky mouth feel but with a slight green touch. Drinks well today, without decant but overall not the complexity, the finish, the sensation you would get from better vintages.

    May 16, 2015 - Bordeaux Confidential USA, nose of black currants, anise, and cigar box, more of the same on the palate, big body, rich, thick, with lots of silky tannins on the mid palate, long, long, finish.

    January 15, 2015 - Péby-Faugères is usually 100% Merlot, exactly like this vintage is, although occasionally small amounts of other Bordeaux varietals might be blended in. Aged in 100% new oak.

    Very, deep, dark and really concentrated red color that doesn't pass any light through. The nose feels somewhat restrained, yet nicely complex and sophisticated with subtle aromas of minty herbal character, ripe red fruits, some dark plums, a little bit of sweet new oak spice and a hint of sandy soil. The wine is full-bodied, soft and suave on the palate with concentrated flavors of extracted woody oak spice, milk chocolate, oaky Cognac character, ripe black cherry, juicy dark plums, some tart lingonberries, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness and a hint of vanilla. Structure-wise the wine seems to lack a bit bite - it is moderately high in acidity, yet still not near enough to carry all that concentration, and the medium tannins are pretty ripe and soft. The finish is quite big, powerful and extracted with really oak-driven flavors of milk chocolate, sweet oak spice, some woody oak bitterness, a little bit of minty herbal character and a hint of very ripe plums.

    Out of the 2011 Faugères trio (Cap de Faugères, Faugères and Péby-Faugères), this was probably the most impressive and balanced one, but even that is based more on the heavy extraction which gave the wine more structure and fruit to balance that excessive new oak out. And seeing how over-oaked this wine (that was lacking in structure) was, I really can't say any of these wines was any good. In all honesty, this didn't taste as much like Bordeaux as rather poorly-made Napa Merlot. There's no sense of finesse, elegance or harmony here - only over-extracted fruit that has been smothered by over-extracted oak. Who on earth these hulking blockbusters are fine wine? At 80€ this is a total rip-off.

    July 5, 2014 - Tasted at a 2011 merchant event. Very dark purple. Expressive nose of cassis, black cherry. On the palate quite sirupy and Californian. This is very extracted but does not have the problems of Monbousquet where the concentrated unripe material. Here the material seemed to be be ripe. There is no dryness, hear or oxidation. Overall the wine is aromatically too one dimensional and short to merit a higher score.
    Confirms my verdict that 2011 is really a bad vintage. While I don't mind lighter vintages (e.g., 2007) they should then at least be soft and early drinking to have an inherent value proposition. 2011 is neither.
