March 19, 2021 - Argentinian malbec is a wine category on its own - and Vina Cobos is at the top of the Mendoza tree. It is the Argentinian project of famed Napa winemaker Paul Hobbs who was once coined “The Steve Jobs of Wine” in Forbes magazine. He has certainly worked his magic here and the wine itself is exceptional - massive, flamboyant Malbec that is rich and polished. Plenty of blood, iron and leather mixed with peppers and blueberries. This has more complexity than you might expect for an Argentinian Malbec and it is the classic iron fist in a velvet glove. Enjoy it with an aged sirloin and a side of chimichurri - a stunning combination!

November 18, 2017 - Not as round and the Cabernet 2010 blends but nonetheless great. Iron, blood, and minerality initially opening up to stewed black fruit, fresh red, and cassis. Certainly not Napa and pretty nice expression of Malbec in my opinion. This reaches its peak in 1-2 years.

June 11, 2016 - Big and came off spicy and disjointed. Nice flavor and aroma but needs more time to come around. 3-4 year minimum.

July 22, 2015 - Unique depth, on the very edge of intensity that any wine can provide, with an overflow of blueberries and black peppers, complex with leather, horse sweat, bell pepper and basil. Full, of soften and mellow tannins, delivering all sorts of spices on its superb powerful finish. Big wine. 95
