September 18, 2013 - A Grenache-heavy Rhône blend (some sources say 95% of fruit from +70 yo. Grenache vines with some 5% of Mourvèdre). Vinified and aged in old oak foudres.
Very dark, almost translucent ruby red color. Ripe, fragrant and quite red-fruit driven nose with sweeter aromas of sunny dark fruit, rustic earthy tones, some leather, light wet socks notes, hints of bright stony minerality and a touch of perfumed floral notes. Alcohol shows just a little. Quite rich, expressive and full-bodied on the palate with smooth, silky mouthfeel - the acidity feels rather moderate here and although the tannins feel noticeable, they are more gentle than aggressive. Overall the wine is very fruit-driven with good emphasis on the purity of fruit. There are flavor of bilberries, blueberry jam, sunny and plummy dark fruit, some raspberry notes, a little bitter spices and a hint of wild strawberries. The medium-long finish is bright and juicy with succulent flavors of ripe red berries, dark fruits, some bitter spice and almost pinosity-like hints of violets.
A nuanced, tasty and somewhat lighter and more fresh Châteauneuf-du-Pape than what you usually get from the region. Lovely purity of fruit and focus here; shows the terroir of the region without coming across as excessively jammy or alcoholic. Worth its price at 33,90€. -

September 9, 2013 - Quite ripe, with blueberry/blackberry fruit. High mourvedre content? I normally think of grenache as having candied/licoricey red fruit. Anyway, not too sweet, and not at all alcoholic, with good acidity, but still quite dense and concentrated. The downside here is that the tannins, while not especially rough, are bitter and give the wine a slight sharp bite on the back end that's not especially pleasant. Maybe that will age out. I liked this but didn't love it, but I don't drink much CdP.

April 14, 2013 - Best by far on day three.
Started off a little tight and disjoint. On the third day, this is a beautiful, elegant CdP. Not overblown at all, delicious and elegant.
