November 1, 2015 - A modern Italian. (Note: I tried the Gran Selezione). Dark in colour. Unusual Chianti notes in the nose: vanilla and pear. Small French barrel which explains this (as opposed to the typical large barrel sizes in Chianti). While the nose is really fantastic, in the palate the vanilla from the wood comes through a tad too much for my taste. But well balanced acidity and tannins. Well made wine. Not a classic old style Chrianti, rather a modern interpretation and hence easier to drink and appealing to a wider audience.

August 24, 2014 - fine nose with scents of roses and red cherries, well balanced with nice tannins and lots of fruit, herbs, dark cherries, licorice. Will improve with a few more years, but drinks well now. Impressive.

May 7, 2014 - Not enough time with the wine to rate.
N: Something reminiscent of Rioja on the nose with some very very slight mature oxidation, dill, vanilla. Also plenty of fruit, cherries and some tar.
M: Chewy tannins, good intensity and length. Some oaky bitterness and warm alcohol.

This is good, but I think it needs some time in the cellar!

June 6, 2013 - At Divo wineclub tasting. Sangiovese with 15% Merlot. Medium ruby. Expressive nose of dark berries with mocha and toast. On the palate medium body with very good balance of fruit, acidity and tannins. A nice example of a Chianti made with a modern touch.

March 14, 2013 - Chianti Classico tasting- the black rooster crows at the dawn of a new age (Allerton Hotel, Chicago IL): Nose: This is showing noticeable oak with richer tones of dark red berries, cherries, and wood spices.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium acidity and chewy tannins. The oak is showing again along with tones of wood spices, licorice, and dark red berries.

Overall: The oak is certainly there, but it isn't too overpowering. The palate is a bit chunky and it could use some smoothing out.
