September 10, 2022 - 200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Supernose. Great ripe wine here, farmyard, sweet spices, apple pie cinnamon, lovely, a bit too light light unfortunately on the palate.

July 21, 2021 - Allowed this to open over the course of 1.5 hours. An impressive vintage for the RC, great nuance even at this relatively young age.

May 29, 2021 - Fantastic nose. Cherries, red and black berries, wet forest floor, leather, eucalyptus etc. Very complex nose and palate. Very well-balanced. Silky tannins. Long finish that lasted hours! Incredible wine. Wow.

March 3, 2020 - Domaine dinner with Aubert de Villaine at WS (WS New York): Difficult vintage. Ultimately, a simple wine just made to perfection. Nothing out of balance. All flavors are perfect.

December 14, 2019 - DRC vs Leroy Dinner (Kheam Hock Road): This bottle brought me back to why I fell in love with Burgundy. DRC did really well in 2000, and this was the epitome of their efforts. An absolutely beautiful wine; but in true RC style, this was about all whispers and gentle caresses rather than shouting power or ostentatious display. A wine of emotion, seduction and contemplation. What a nose this had. Damp earth, wet leaves - like the forest floor after an autumn shower - then black cherries and sweet dark berries, a twist of herby bramble, and a lovely quiet stream of Vosne spice that just floated out of the glass. Not showy, but so beautiful. Amazing. The palate was just incredible too. This was what Romanee-Conti is all about. Profound, deep, inexorable, yet completely crystalline, pure and transparent, like a diamond both reflecting and refracting its terroir, showing beautifully composed, almost quiet flavours of black cherries, dark berries, violets and gentle spice, all wrapped in silken robes. Pure, clean perfection. Always subtle, always gentle, always noble, and the balance - this was power without weight, intensity without effort, incredibly complex, yet always so incredibly yummy and easy to drink. A wonderful finish too. Long, quietly intense, yet so effortless and elegant. A special, special wine. Beautifully whole and complete. A whole lot more giving than the 2001 at this stage - this was magic tonight.

(Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti) Less deep colour than La Tâche – looks quite delicate in the glass. Like La Tâche, the nose starts in a very subdued way; but much more floral (how I’d expected the Romanée-Saint-Vivant might show) than the other wines. The next sniff shows much deeper tones, and again with each sniff the wine develops new aromas: kirsch, cassis, faint vanilla, then the floral element returns – almost lavender followed by coal-tar. In the mouth, perfect acidity and again, silk rather than velvet tannin. Once more I find the palate less involving than the nose, but a beautiful wine by any standard that leaves a smooth coating on your teeth to remind you of the experience!

(DRC Romanee Conti) Had that exotic asian lettuce thing that the 2000 La Tache had but was deeper and had a blueberry spice component that was unbelievable. I smelled this for at least ten minutes before I took a sip. Mint, game, perfectly ripe black cherries, boysenberry, mulberry, clove. So many layers. A new nuance every time I stuck my nose in the glass. Drop dead stunning. Gorgeous. Amazing palate. The best palate of them all. An elegance unmatched by any other wine I have ever had. Weaves its way on your palate. Supple, balanced, long, rich, perfectly balanced.
