January 14, 2023 - Oh wow! So smooth. So balanced
. I decanted and drank right out of the cellar (58 degrees ). And this was complex , organized like a fine symphony and smooth. This wine has held its virtue! -

October 26, 2021 - Not overwhelmingly varietal tone/nose, but lovely balance and dark fruit integrated and ready to drink. Curious to see if the syrah pops more after a few more years, as it has on some of the earlier vintages.

March 13, 2021 - Brought to room temperature for a week. Opened it up and right away it was excellence out of the bottle! Smooth, lush, moderate berry , no alcoholic burn or residue or odor. Simply unbelievable! I then Paired it with cheese and later with an Italian anti pasta salad. Very fine. 24 hours later, uncorked but had a wine pourer at opening it as still smooth.

September 30, 2020 - My last of a couple bottles of 2010 Variation One from a visit to Arietta earlier this year (which was at Chateau Boswell). Luckily for them, they left Boswell over the summer and moved to Hudson Vineyards for all of their winemaking, so the unfortunate burning down of Boswell doesn’t have an impact on them.
Everything in check and firing on all cylinders. This is a good balance between cool climate Cali Syrah and Walla Walla Syrah. Around 68% Syrah and 32% merlot (all from Hudson vineyard). It shows wonderfully lifted and perfumed aromatics of potpourri, wild smoked game, licorice and rhubarb tart. Nicely integrated and beautiful fruit paired with savory peppercorn, cherry jerky, sweet tobacco smoke and a good balance of tannin and acidity. Structure is here to cruise for a few years, but I think this is at peak. Very much a unique style and one you have to think outside the box on. If you can, it’s delicious.
