October 16, 2023 - Pretty robust Burgundy. Avery added something.

September 11, 2022 - 200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): This was the last wine made by Alain Roumier before Vogue took over. Wow, delicious, fruity, rich, lots of sucrosite, hard to find pristine bottles today of this. Lots of acidity, lots of strawberry, One of the best old wines I had. Sweetness like a Rayas, acidity like a Burgundy, so alive, so fresh, so light, translucent color, stunning, Wow!

October 17, 2021 - 30x 1955 & 1961 (mostly Bdx): Tasted single blind. This wine had some pleasant mint, spice, meaty notes and some ripe red berries on the palate but not much more. Lots of oxidation notes, an unpleasantly ripe nose and it got more acidic by the minute. Overall not much pleasure. Our host bought this bottle 30 years ago and it has been impeccably stored since then, so it is likely not a widely travelled bottle.

September 20, 2021 - Grand 1961 vs 1955 vintage tasting (Fribourg): Big 1961 vs 1955 tastings including 10 direct match-ups and 11 individual wines from 1961. The tasting was conducted in flights of 4, single-blind and with no previous decant with all bottles opened 1h prior to start. The line-up was dominated by Bordeaux reds, but also included 5 Sauternes, 1 Champagne, 3 Burgundy reds and 1 Ribera del Duero. The following observations are worth mentioning: i) 1961 generally came across as a better vintage today than 1955, ii) the performance correlated with the 1855 classification, iii) The most outstanding wines were outside of the Bordeaux reds with Veuve Clicquot Rosé '61, Vega Sicilia Unico '61 (both 97) and La Tour Blanche '61 (96) worth mentioning, iv) Top-performing Bordeaux was Margaux (95) in 1961 and Mouton in 1955. List of wines included in the tasting story.

    Tasting note:
First impression: Immediately too oxidized with not much life left, only vaguely hinting at what could have been many moons ago. Palate with a nice, smoky component but pretty much over. You could argue still drinkable if you really have to, but don‘t expect any pleasure from it.

July 21, 2017 - Third rendition of Avery Family Cellar Wine Dinner - Root day and '14 DRCs to the rescue! (Mirabelle restaurant, Washington D.C.): In half bottle with high ullage. Beautiful bright ruby. Subtle nose displaying shy red fruits, strawberry jam, cherry jam, caramel, smoked oyster, oyster shell and limestone. Excellent concentration, very rich, dense and round, exceptional sweetness, strong mineral presence, good acidity and a long sweet red fruit and oyster shell driven finish. 92 point nose and 97 point palate. Not as expressive as the last bottle.

Rockss and Fruit

(Comte de Vogue Musigny (Avery's bottling)) the wine was good but not great. It need around 20 minutes to open up but once it did the very ripe character of the 1961 vintage was showing. There was a cassi/cherry lipstick quality to the nose with an old Burgundy earthy smell plus some exotic spice. Good but also kind of muddied. The palate was much better with good rich fruit, an ethereal quality and nice concentration plus great Musigny structure. It seemed lacking in structure but once given air the wine filled out. This was nice stuff but not mind-altering
