March 8, 2014 - (AP #26) The last bottle that I had in September 2008 was so intense it was almost overwhelming. This has settled down nicely. Beautifully integrated nose displaying perfectly ripe yellow peach, mango and guava, light caramel, ginger, saline, nutmeg and mineral. Dense yet airy palate and perfect amount of acidity to keep the wine fresh. Just like D’Yquem, what separates Egon Muller from the other great producers is the texture, so unctuous yet so airy, intense flavors evaporates as it hits the palate. Beautiful showing.

September 21, 2008 - (AP#26) Pop and pour. Slight hint of green, very light color. Starts a bit tight, lemon, hint of pineapple, granny smith and only a hint of mineral. The first sip is extremely sweet, getting close to BA, unctuous and the acidity is only noticeable at the end which prevents from being cloying and clumsy. The palate unlike the nose shows strong presence of limestone and seashell.

With 20 minutes of air, it really opens up. The nose shows pear, white peach, granny smith, pineapple, limestone a la les clos, white flower, expensive spicy perfume and botrytis. There is beautiful interplay of intense sweet fruit, mineral and piercing acidity. It has layers upon layers of complex flavors of various lighter fruits as well as the tropical ones, white flowers, honey suckle, white pepper, nutmeg, allspice, star anise, coriander seed, limestone, petrol and etc.

This wine has incredible scale and currently a bit overwhelming. One of the biggest wines I had in my life. It is a privilege to taste such a wine.
