July 1, 2023 - From magnum. Hand written vintage label but confirmed by branded cork (3 other bottles in the same lot have normal labels). Top shoulder fill with a protruding and saturated cork. Opened around 2pm and served 6 hours later. Gorgeous nose of cedar and pencil shavings. Initially a bit shy and slightly green, this continued to open up and improve with each glass. Red fruited profile with currant, forest berries, red plum and cigar leaf. Gorgeous, spice laden finish. This has plenty of life left in this format.

May 12, 2017 - A casual Friday sushi dinner (Gary & Cindy's): Served blind, it poured cloudy but dark ruby. The earthiness and subtle fruit spoke Left Bank Bordeaux. I thought Graves. A true vin de garde, and for a while it was impressive and enjoyable. Ultimately, the brett seemed too dominant- even for those of us who like barnyard in our glass.

March 8, 2015 - Bordeaux & San Sebastian Trip; 3/6/2015-3/13/2015: Nose: tobacco, smoke, intense leather and perserved cherry notes. Leafy and old bordeaux that is nicely integrated. Palate: opened beautifully over about an hour. No decanting just bottle aeration. Cherry, plum and tobacco, soil/leather. Gorgeous, seamless and fully mature. Maderized cherry with sweet earth notes. Finish: moderate and acidic but great for 66. Spoke st estephe with deep soil/spice beautifully.

Purchased at Bordeaux Magnum and consumed at Cordeillan Bages. . Recorked in 2014, neck fill.

January 20, 2012 - The '61 Meyney really outshined this. Solid wine, with flowery notes on the nose. Very sweet palate, with marischino cherries, ripe strawberries, flowers, leather. Finish very solid and the wine has enough tannins to keep going for several more years.
