An incredible wine, still going strong

October 18, 2020 - Dense red cherry, clay, smoky, surprisingly still some oak. Fullish on the palate, ripe and flattering but balanced but a nice piquancy imparted by the 96 acidity. This fades over time, so perhaps best to seize the day. 93-94

October 11, 2020 - Tasted blind, this wine had a medium red center and light red rims. The medium+ intensity nose generated violet, black cherry, annise, and mineral notes. Later, I detected some limes!

I found it easy to be seduced by the silky texture of this wine. It was gorgeously integrated with strong acidity and a long finish.

To my mind, this wine was still quite young and needs some time to develop further nuance. It was somewhat controversial due to its strong "1996" acidity. I enjoyed its "cut" and felt it would have been stunning with food. I would not touch this for at least 5-10 years at which point it could have upside.

Burgundy-Report

(Gros Anne Richebourg) Anne has a shorter cold soak, and ferments at a higher temp than Grivot. Colour is very deep. Less closed again, cherry and plum fruits. High acid, reduced tannin compared to Grivot’s. More obviously fruity palate with a slightly creamy oak finish. Full bodied, again very, very long and again - fabulous!
