May 21, 2016 - Q2 - 2016 Tasting - The Rhone! - Another taster's perspective ((The Apt)): #15 of 16 wines tasted (double blind) at Rhone tasting. This bottle did not stand out in a line up of some much more expensive wines - but it also held its own and received more votes than some others. Kind of a surprise for me given the price point. My notes reflected a deep ruby color, young but reasonably well balanced.

May 21, 2016 - Q2 Tasting - The Rhone! (The Apt): Wine #15: Part of a double-blind Rhone tasting (yes, someone brought this as a joke). My notes from the blind - high alcohol, decent fruit, young, needed a decant. Certainly not a winner in the group, but did get more pennies than some other nicer wines. I chalk it up to being almost at the end of 16 relatively intense wines so there was palette fatigue all around. (3 pennies)

November 8, 2015 - This is not a spectacular wine, and for the price we should not expect it to be. What it is good at, is giving us an indication of both the Rhone style blend flavor profile and the unique South African terroir influences. It is a little gamey and rustic and also on the thin side, but we can smell and taste some typical SA flinty red soil stuff. Would expect the 46% Shiraz to bring a bit more fresh blue fruit. Dark but not very opaque purple color. Medium bodied. Little or no oak. Only moderate acidity.

professordoktor Does not like this wine:
July 26, 2014 - Simple fruit and oak cranked up in intensity for the mass market. There is a nice amount of acid, and a pleasant toast to the wood. But, at the price range this is getting into (~$10), there are plenty of outstanding bargains to choose from.
