Community Tasting Notes 4

November 1, 2023 - 93s are drinking well at the moment. Here you can taste the age; dried roses, dark soy sauce, earth and mushrooms. There is still a lot of fruit left; think dried hawthorn, dark cherries, black tea, I found this a contemplative wine. Not a blockbuster but still with enough complexity.. versus the 95/96, this is a more rustic rendition.

June 12, 2023 - Nose: Earthy, dried leaves, smoke, game, hoisin sauce, pepper, hints of rose, black tea
Notes: this wine has been kept in pristine condition and the fill is excellent. The nose is obviously quite complex but I have to say the overall profile of the wine is still a little underwhelming. Despite the good condition I didn't find the wine too interesting and I believe Charmes might be one of the least interesting wines from Rousseau in their portfolio.

    April 4, 2015 - Food: Chinese
    Duration: 2 hours
    Condition: Perfect
    Aroma: Blueberry, red date, earthiness
Note: Armand Rousseau is one of my favorite makers in Burgundy. 1993 is an excellent year for many burgundy wines, this one is pretty good, but not great. I can see the limitations of Charmes chambertin in this wine. CC lacks the depth in C and CCdB but also couldn't deliver the fineness in LC and MC. I personally haven't really enjoyed a good bottle of CC except for the Dominique Laurent 2006 which to be honest was more like VR than GC. Nevertheless, this bottle still feels pretty energetic, I personally think that it can be drank between now and 2022 without a problem. Problem of CC is that the earthiness is very distinctive yet cannot integrate well with the fruits.

May 20, 2012 - Sweet red fruit, supple texture. Silky, tart cherry, spice, earth notes all working in harmony. Resolved and rounded palate. So elegant and pure. Absolutely drop dead gorgeous wine that would have been the star of most nights if not for the dozen or so other Rousseaus on the table. Excellent wine. Drinking a pointe.
