Community Tasting Notes 91

May 9, 2024 - Medium to deep ruby in colour, slight purple, opaque in the center, with very slight bricking on the rim and a bit of legs.

Fruit forward on the nose with some oak presence and green notes. Green bell peppers, blueberries, black currants, ripe plums, vanilla, smoke, and menthol.

Medium bodied and dry on the palate with a great mix of earthy and fruity notes. Blueberries, black currants, graphite, wet earth, hint of vanilla, espresso, black tea, and some green peppers. Tannins are somewhat resolved, but still relatively powerful and grippy. Good amount of acidity is present to balance the overall wine. Decently long finish with leathery and black fruits lingering around.

This is in a decently good place and should continue to drink nicely for the next while.

    March 3, 2024 - Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste Pauillac GCC 2012 13.5% ABV
    (76% CS / 24% M)
Best P&P at 15°C, but maintains its level with warming (up to 18/19°) and with prolonged airing.
Colour: deep dark purple, (almost) without ageing tones
Nose: delicately scented with cassis, réglisse, cherries and also some plum
Palate: again cassis, some blueberry, then cherries. Subtle cedar wood with a slight hint of green juniper, graphite, which, after a brief burst of very youthful acidity, carries into a quite long finish of a refreshingly stony nature, in which redcurrants then also quietly emerge.
This Pauillac from a rather modest Bdx year is drinking very well right now, appears fresh, almost youthful and rather delicate for a Pauillac, but very rich in nuances. Tobacco is almost completely absent, which I don't see as a shortcoming in this wine.
Will probably maintain its current level for another 5-7 years (with good cellaring), but I don't think it will improve significantly.
(93 points; I'm looking forward to the 14)
5 days later: not far from 94 points

January 28, 2024 - 28.01.2024 - early birthday dinner at Pyro for my eldest boy. Popped ard 6.30pm in the restaurant and decanted. It is now almost 10pm and I am still struggling with this. Heavy oak & not as well integrated as I would have wanted. Took a lot of coaxing to sniff out the dark fruit, cassis, slight roasted capsicum & some mint. Palate is still firm with the oak overpowering the layers & felt very disjointed. Could be a provenance issue
