December 15, 2023 - The last bottle to be unveiled at the 1st of hopefully many Christmas dinners this year's end, generously shared by our host Eng.

3 hours bottle breathed, and this was still so fresh with an incredibly dark core.. I called out LB 1996!

This 1983 LLC was singing as were all the wines that evening. Like a well oiled orchestra!!

Supremely well balanced; Cassis and more blackfruit, acidity M+ and tannins rounded after 40 years!

Nose - Ripe blackfruit and cassis, with unmistakable cigar box. As it takes on more air, and as my nose gets used to the complexities.. Graphite and pencil lead with old leather too.

Palate - Blackfruits with plums developing after 1 hour too. Mid to full bodied. Very classical style.

    Tannins - Rounded.
    Acidity - Medium.
Finish - Medium to long length.

Blend is unclear but circa. Cab 65%, with 20% Merlot and remaining 12% CF and 3% PV. Matured in oak barriques (70-80% new) for 18 months.

July 30, 2023 - Dark crimson in color with some clearing & slight bricking at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of aged & integrated, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries, & cassis with classic cigar box overtones of tobacco & cedar, floral notes of violets, earthy/dusty, leather, gravel, graphite, herbs, spices, minerals & a hint of iron/rust in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, aged, ripe fruit flavors of sweet dark cherries, blackberries & plums with earthy/dusty, cocoa/coffee, herbs, & minerals. Lingering silky-smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present at 40 years of age & appears to be at its zenith of development. I wouldn't expect any further development from additional aging, so drink up. Ullage was at lower neck; cork was stained the full length but intact upon opening. A wonderful, aged Bordeaux.

July 4, 2023 - Mature and elegant, with vibrant nose of dirt, graphite, forest floor, barnyard, and cranberry. Palate had moderate acid, body, and ABV. Silky tannins complemented a modest finish with a ton of complexity. Flavors consistent with nose. Excellent bottle that I’m glad was consumed when it was.

April 21, 2023 - My 40th birthday at 67 Pall Mall (67 Pall Mall): A recent purchase and a pristine bottle.
Very clean and precise nose of red plum, a little leather and meat, very youthful.
On the palate black tea, red plum, graphite. Very fresh and long finish with tannins still showing themselves. Perhaps a bit austere now, the structure is there to support further aging when more interest might evolve.
Someone described it like a French restaurant where the white table cloth service is all very correct but leaves you a bit cold

April 21, 2023 - Peter's 1983 extravaganza (67 Pall Mall): Smoke and meat on the nose, and quite soft, plummy and red-fruited on the palate. A juicy, soft finish with some slight greenness. Others were of the view that this wine was shut-down and incredibly youthful, and needs to loosen up with more time in bottle, but I'm not sure if that's on the cards or it's just not that interesting.
