January 17, 2016 - Spicey fruit on the nose. Palate of juicy red fruit berries, finishes with herbs, spices, and hint of tobacco. Definitely opens up in the glass. Not super complex but everything you want from the southern rhone.

July 27, 2014 - Not our favourite Cote du Rhone. Maybe be a bit young, but the alcohol was very prominent and the nose less so even after decanting for three hours. Will try again in a few years.

  • DrakkarNoir Does not like this wine:

July 21, 2014 - 14.2% abv. Savoury nose: bloody steak, olives, mushrooms, even turning a bit perfumed at the end of my glass, which I liked. In the mouth however, the alcohol is noticeable and the tannins left a lingering bitter taste. Disappointed with my first Texier.

    Mostly grenache.

April 12, 2014 - Deep, opaque red. Brambly fruits, earth, and hillside herbs. There is an underlying minerality and structure, forming a firm backbone. This punches way above its weight class, and if you drank this as an everyday red, you'd be doing better than most. Fantastic QPR at $18.

Incidentally, this wine bears the name of a beautiful village in Provence. I was lucky to overnight there at the Hostellerie le Beffroi, and I remember fondly roaming its Romanesque streets and passages. Idyllic to the extreme.

January 29, 2014 - This is kind of like ur-grenache. It seems so imposing when I say it that way, but it really typifies the core values of the grape for me - lots of red fruit (raspberry) up front, some leather and garrigue mixed in there, and gently balanced acidity and tannin. Just delicious, and oh yeah, way young for this wine. I'd hold for a few years to really let this inexpensive bottle strut its stuff.
