November 26, 2023 - I've had some great wins with aged Ravenswood wines much older than this one....but the 09 Icon was not great. Fruit is basically gone and while there's still structure, there's also heat. The more I drink these Icons, the more I believe they're better in their youth (and this is coming from someone who loves age on his zins/field blends)

May 1, 2023 - This is in a really nice spot. Been sitting on a 6-pack since purchase in 2012. Considering the warm vintage, quite elegant now. Previous notes from years past mentioned structure and tannins. That has all given way to a soft, silky texture with secondary elements, while still maintaining its fresheness and floral red fuit.

January 21, 2014 - Excellent wine. Full of structure, but soft at the same time. Lingering finish and delicious fruit with some complexity. Double decanted for 90 minutes. Would probably continue to develop with time but definitely in a good place now

January 12, 2013 - What a we expect from a Ravenswood wine. This is a blend, so it wasn't has high tannin as a Zin, but still there. Light fruit, full-bodied and very enjoyable. The bottle emptied way to fast. Color was a deep, deep purple and it was very closely balanced in taste.
Might have to pick up a couple more to lay down for a while and give some comparison. There was balance, but it didn't have all the emphasis that I've read as a wine that will age well (?). But the color and balance were there, maybe it would just mellow and drink faster?

July 17, 2012 - Deep dark blood color that comes from being a true CA field selection. The mix of Alicante Bouschet in there really heightens this.
Full on nose with green pepper, blackberry, currants and cassis showing through. There are some pretty notes of rose petal also.
The palate is dense, rich and coating with the right balance of acid and tannin.
Flavors round out after a few trips through the decanter, suggesting age worthiness.
Overall, a great wine and tribute to CA grape heritage.
