March 23, 2024 - Still going strong after 44 years. Cork was long and fully intact- no seepage. Lovely color with a bit of bricking. First sips out of bottle showed expected Biondi-Santi tannins and excellent structure. Let the bottle oxygenate at shoulder level for 24 hours- now much more complex with softer tannins with taste of black cherries and raspberry. Wonderful bottle- could age for years still but excellent now. Glad I have a few more...

December 30, 2022 - Lovely, pristine bottle at Osteria dell’Enoteca in Florence. Dark morello cherry, wet earth, leather, menthol, nice acidity.

May 25, 2019 - Tasted blind – Neat profile of dried meaty and leathery scents with a lightish red cherries and raspberries with a mild layer of dried roses. Traditional style with no detectable new oak nor heavy extraction. Southern Rhône? The elegance reminded me of Rayas second wine, 2007? Second guess Biondi Santi. Unlike other Biondi Santi I have tasted, which are usually leathery (smelly) and overtly rustic, this 1980 was clean and smooth. One of the few Italian wines that I (a Burgundy guy) would ask for a second pour. (90/100)

June 10, 2016 - Slow ox'ed for a few hours. Showing a healthy color in the glass without much browning but a fairly wide translucent rim, very herbal Sangiovese but no signs of oxidization, tannins integrated, fairly long finish. Very good for a very good but not great 4 start Brunello at age 35!

May 14, 2013 - Still going strong after 33 years. Lots of acidity and character and could even survive a decant (I didn't, and I don't think it would add anything after all these years anyway). Some fruit still in there amongst a hint of oak, black boot polish and star anise. Complex and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. This could last for decades to come.
