January 6, 2018 - Cleaning out the cellar and found this. Paid $16 4 years ago. Lovely mature wine. Dark and dense. Blackberry, mocha , anise. Pair d with pork loin but also fine on its own. Wish I had more of this one.

December 20, 2014 - Almost a three hour decant, black in the glass. The nose is chocked full of dark fruit, dense black licorice, smoke, chocolate, all of which carry into the palate. Soft acidity and muscular tannins outline this very rich, full bodied wine with a long finish. This is not shy, it lets you know what it is about immediately and maintains its personality through the entire bottle, if you enjoy big cabs and big shiraz this will be right up your alley.

    November 19, 2014 - 90-91. second note on this.

big wine. dense but not over the top.

cool black fruit, clay, woodsmoke, and a hint of Rhone like garrigue. baking chocolate and red meat. definite chalky-stony minerality all the way through.

full body with dusty tannins midpalate. finishes cool and dry despite the 15% with more textured tannins.

the best tannat i've had and a perfect steak wine at $21.
if you've never tried a tannat, this is one to start with.

August 21, 2014 - This is a big one. Juicy, red licorice nose; dirt and sage. Spicy, earthy and loaded with an unctuous, baked fruitiness. Much more akin to a California Zin, than a South American Cab. A decent decant would help this guy, since this has really rounded out after a couple of hours.
It's incredible; once again, South America has taken a little-known, French blender and made a single-varietal knockout. This is definitely a wine-nerd wine; good for taking people outside their comfort zone.

January 5, 2014 - paid $21 for the bottle. another testament to the great values out of South America right now. very happy with this purchase.

concentrated dark fruit on the nose(blueberries, and blackberries mostly) a hint of vanilla and smoke.

while the nose was rich, the palate was even better. not as full bodied as one might imagine. medium-full but not flabby or viscous. despite being a single varietal, this has a good amount of structure, with rich, but not candied dark berries up front, grahpite and mineral notes midpalate. the finish is long and chalky with the rustic smoky notes persevering. the 15% does not show itself.

this wine was even better day 2. it kept a similar structure but the key flavours(Dark Fruit-Graphite-Smoke) were more pronounced.

at around $20 this is a no brainer. this Tannat would be killer with a rare streak but just as nice to sip on its own.

(Bodega Bouza Tannat Reserva) Very dark ruby color; appealing, ripe berry, berry pie, vanilla nose; tasty, rich, ripe berry, berry pie, vanilla palate, reminiscent of a rich Napa red; medium-plus finish (15% alcohol)
