Community Tasting Notes 3

  • Cote d'Or Likes this wine:

    August 14, 2013 - PopnPour, tasted over 4 hrs and day 2
    -med red with minimal browning/clearing
-cherry fruit, earth, surprisingly little tertiary development
-med acidity, still a lot of earthy cherry fruit, some rustic bitterness and med tannins remain, started falling apart by 4 hrs
-typical old-school Maume on a long slow aging trajectory

December 1, 2012 - Very firm and closed at first, this showed young. A bit foursquare, but really killer. Young, tight, very long, with a food friendly acidic profile. Paired with Julia Child's Coq au Vin (which was marvelous!) this was the group's #2, my #2 (of 6), and easily surpassed all other burgs after the ringer. This will last another 6 to 8 years, but no reason to wait.

October 6, 2012 - Decanted for sediment, tasted over 4 hrs
-surprisingly dark ruby core with minimal clearing at edges
-gorgeous aromatics with sweet dark fruit, iron, earth, Gevrey spice, and forest floor
-med acidity gives it vibrant life, loads of mid-palate sap give it power with little weight, tannins nearly completely resolved, ripe dark fruited, minimal trace of oak on the finish, ok complexity and length, on the less animale side of Gevrey
-drinking beautifully now, still fresh but some secondary development, at peak with many good years remaining, WIN!
