January 20, 2024 - This is killer stuff. Nose is still so full of red fruits: cherries, raspberries, currants, but also herbal notes like grape leaf and mint with a gravelly, graphite undertone. So classic and so compelling and still 100% there after 40+ years. Palate is almost a step up from the nose, still juicy and sweet and almost primary with more cherries and a wild strawberry note but there’s some nice secondary and tertiary notes like mushrooms and decaying leaves that give beautiful complexity. Tannins totally resolved, perfect acidity with a strongly minty finish to balance it. So in the zone right now. Perfect match for a pan-seared A5 wagyu strip but probably killer with anything really.

April 28, 2018 - Slightly better fill and same service as previous bottle. The bottle performed much the same, but seemed to have ever so slightly more oomph.

April 23, 2018 - The bottle’s fill level was very high shoulder and after removing the capsule there were signs of very slight seepage. The wine was decanted and had very little sediment, a dark purple color, and great clarity.
The nose offered aromas of mesquite, leather, and black and blue fruits. The tannins were fully resolved and the wine still had very pleasant acidity. All involved thought it showed very well and ten years younger then it is.

December 25, 2014 - I found one long-forgotten bottle from a former case while cleaning the mouse droppings out of my passively cooled, non-"ideal" basement cellar. The cork was soft, but came out in one piece. Wine had not leaked through. Wine level was about 3/4 inches below cork. Poured through sieve and aerater and started imbibing immediately. Wine was still dark red, no browning. Nose had plum preserves, ethanol, and traces of isopropanol (rubbing alcohol), and methyl ethyl ketone. For some, this is a flaw - "medicinal, nail polish remover", but for me, in trace amounts this is attractive. Taste was surprisingly young, fruity, alive. I was surprised and impressed that this bottle was still alive. Applied Vacuvin pump and had more the next day. Still pleasurable. I vaguely recall that I paid about $120 for a case of this in 1985. Wish I had more.

July 21, 2013 - A bit simple, but really delicious, straight forward cabernet that has held up very well. Amazing fruit, a little cedar, and no heat.
