Community Tasting Notes 4

April 4, 2019 - Kind of an interesting wine. Garnet red pour. This is a deeper and slightly darker wine than the 2011 non-proprietary. It is smoky and darker red fruit. But has some sharp acidity throughout... Is a bit out of balance. Some herbal character in the finish. I think this one really needs to be cellared a little longer but this is the only one I have. Makes me wonder if the 15 Mtn Proprietary I have is gonna outlive me!

December 24, 2016 - Disappointing. A bit bitter, chalky. Not a good overall flavor.

November 10, 2016 - Found this older vintage at Wine Watch in Fort Lauderdale. Deep garnet red. Layered nose with notes of dark cocoa leaves, blackberries, boysenberry, a semi hickory smoke and something almost like truffles. Medium bodied with moderate tannins (6/10). Started off tight and crispy with strawberries and mountain berries. As it aired out some more earthy notes appeared with some wet dirt. Medium plus finish with a little greenery. Drink till 2020.

October 11, 2013 - When we tried it at the winery about a month ago it was the last visit of the day and I didn't end up taking notes so glad to add something now. This was my favorite of the flight at Aonair. It's a blend of mountain cabs - the four main appellations plus Atlas Peak. Fruit comes across as a bit unripe (perhaps a product of the 2011 year), but there's a bit of greenness, maybe some paprika-like taste. As it starts to open up there's a strong tannin and dustiness to it. A touch of cherry was poking through towards the end. Wonder how it would do with a bit of age.
