March 17, 2023 - Dusty leather, rose hips and cherry. Long finish and resolved tannins but enough structure to go the distance. Great with roasted duck and Canlis salad.

January 13, 2023 - Harmonious and so ready to enjoy, this was the first bottle (served from a magnum too) in our dinner session celebrating the trio's birthday!

Very lively nose with great floral aromas of raspberries and hints of strawberries too. Then came mineral notes as it develops too.

On the palate, the acidity is well resolved and tannins are velvety as well. Lots of ripe cherries and plum with lovely rose petal is all there, and the finish is medium.

The Vietti winery goes back to the 19th century. However, it was only in the early 20th century, that the Vietti name become a winery offering its own wines in a bottle.

I love the artwork on the label - As of 1974, many Vietti wines have been dressed with specially designed original works such as lithographs and etchings, inspired by the wine of that particular vintage.

Vietti wines come from the Castiglione Falletto wineyards, in the villages of Barolo and La Morra which are 6km apart from one another. The soil is that of sandy-calcareous elements, which provides a unique tannic heritage with that of elegance and nuanced sensations.

Only about 5,000 bottles produced each year (Thanks to ThomasV - See comments, for the fact-check and reminder about the villages too), so to have a magnum.. this was a real treat. Thanks to birthday boy WS for sharing this with us!

April 11, 2020 - Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of medium ruby with fading garnet rim and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of red fruit of ripe cherries and raspberry, floral notes of dried flowers, herbal notes of mint, pungent spice of licorice, animal notes of leather, mineral notes of earth, maturity notes of wet leaves. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and velvety texture, medium (+) alcohol and medium (-) body and medium (+) intensity flavors of red fruit of ripe cherries and plum, floral notes of rose, herbal notes of black tea, sweet spice of clove. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Barolo with an intense nose showing good complexity, the wine has nice ripe red fruit aromas, evolving to more floral and spicy notes, with some leather characters as well as earth. On the palate it has good balance, well-structured and showing finesse, with good concentration of similar flavors but also having some black tea notes, finishing fairly long. It is ready to drink now but can benefit from further ageing of another 4-6 years.

September 14, 2019 - Consumed way too young to gauge its evolution. This really needs an additional 5-7 years to unfurl and reveal its charm. Definitely in the feminine spectrum albeit with grace and precision.
Minimal browning with an intriguing nose of red flowers, asphalt, and macerated cherry. Some notes of pleasing menthol.

Coats the palate nicely with predominant cherry and pomegranate flavors. Tannin still a bit coarse but will resolve and soften with adequate time. Just to reiterate, this tends towards a more feminine presentation similar to a well crafted Chambolle Musigny. Too young to detect secondary/tertiary nuance at this time. Recommend to hold for further development......
